Contractors sought for £250M Sighthill regeneration

Adhering to a public realm strategy developed by LDA Design, in conjunction with the council’s own in-house master planners, the proposals include a series of ‘parkettes’ hosting recreational spaces, seating and sculpture along a central boulevard dubbed ‘the garden spine’.
Kirstin Taylor, director at LDA Design, said: “Our focus has been on the landscape and amenities, taking the emphasis away from vehicles and onto the community they will serve, and giving Sighthill a unique identity.
“We’re also proposing innovative green infrastructure solutions such as rain gardens within key streetscapes, right through to the design and specification of bespoke street furniture and dramatic gateway spaces.”
A separate ‘civic spine’ serves as the primary pedestrian route through the centre of the scheme.

I hope they do landscaping like this at the back of Cowcaddens behind the fire station etc, that area is becoming more and more grim! Something like this would link both sides of the motorway nicely!

This is beautifully landscaped and would make a nice location to sit out in summer but there isn`t going to be a shop or café anywhere nearby. There will only be 7 shop units for this whole Sighthill redevelopment, which is not enough for a scheme of this size. Something like the old Virginia galleries and a few pubs/cafes along the front of the canal would have been good especially with the amount of students who will be living in the area. We don`t seem to be making the most of the assets that Glasgow has, although it is definitely better than what was there before.
