14 storey office block set for Glasgow’s Waterloo Street

The Still would see retention of the existing B-listed building dating from the 1890’s behind which a connecting tower element would be built by Bennetts Associates.
This would entail demolition of an adjoining tenement block however – including the Admiral Bar.
David Kilgour, projects director, Whiteburn, said: “The Still will be a building where innovative new ways of working will harness all the elements of today’s rapidly changing technological and cultural environment.
“We‘re convinced The Still will become a building where professional and creative, firms flourish. There will be a real sense of creative urban energy at The Still.”
Work on site could begin in 2017 for completion by 2019.

letting agents JLL calculate that the current vacancy rate for grade A office space in the city centre is just three per cent

I despair, yet another uninspiring box, combine that with overbearing scale I foresee no meaningful contribution to Glasgow's changing character.

This actually looks like it has the potential to be a pretty decent building
Presumably the bar can go into the new building?

I rather like the corroded steal in this context when there is am emphasis on verticality, as opposed to the likes of the proposed briggait extension. It is really rather nice to see the lower portion playing offf with the b listed building. However I'm not sure about the detailed regarding the glazing. Perhaps a similar language to the ground floor and lower portion could be utilised. Much better than most proposals driven through commercialism though.

I can never find cheap un-appealling open plan office space in Glasgow its just .... oh ... no ... wait there is that empty building on St Vincent Street

I love (or don't) the way you manage to turn this into a GCC hate-fest-a-thon. Did it ever cross your mind that the council have a myriad of considerations to make? The Admiral may be a nice bar, I'll let you be the judge of that, but the onus is on the developer to make their case.
But meantime by all means proceed with your pre-emptive GCC strike

I do not see the need in demolishing the Georgian tenement. There is precious few relics of what was Scotland's largest Georgian new towns and the development can easily accomodate facade retention. The scaffolding look just looks juvenile and unsophisticated.

Brutal. In a time where most of us are working hybrid and that being unlikely to change in the future it is a sin to go forward with a vanity project like this. Demolishing a well loved and well run bar in the process is just icing on the cake. No regard for what the people of Glasgow want or need.
