February 29 2016
A team led by Sheppard Robson Architects have secured the commission to oversee the £63.5m Knockroon Campus within the Broomfield area of New Cumnock, East Ayrshire, following a design competition.Organised in partnership with the RIAS the procurement process saw local stakeholders given direct input into the education hub; which will see the merger of five local schools to create one 2,300 capacity hub - constituting the largest capital investment ever to be undertaken by the authority.
Alex McPhee, depute chief executive and chief financial officer at east Ayrshire Council said: “The project attracted interest from some of the world’s biggest architectural companies and Sheppard Robson showed they have a real understanding of our ambitions and how they can be delivered.”
Sheppard Robson will now develop their approach to the site ahead of a planned public consultation ahead of a likely construction start date in 2017.
