New Ayr Academy to get underway
January 11 2016
A £25m new build Ayr Academy has been given the all-clear by the Scottish government, clearing the way for Kier Construction to begin delivery of the BDP designed scheme by the end of the month.Located at Craigie Estate the school will accommodate a roll of up to 1,000 and includes two open ‘learning plazas’ for multiple classes and collaborative learning.
Facilities such as outdoor pitches, a hall, gyms and a dance studio will be made available for community use out of hours.
Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: "This school is the first of 12 school and health centre projects now being progressed across Scotland through the hub finance model following the Office for National Statistics ruling that changes to the hub model adhere to updated EU accounting guidelines.”
The new school is scheduled to open its doors in August 2017 and is being delivered in tandem with an expansion of Marr College following the school’s move from its historic home at Fort Street, Ayr.
