7N flesh out Edinburgh Airport Business Gateway plan
7N Architects have submitted outline plans for a significant urban extension close to Edinburgh Airport – phase one of the International Business Gateway.

Built on agricultural land around a tram stop and transport corridor the development would feature a large central square for events, street markets and exhibitions. Off this a series of avenues would branch out lined by hotels, office space and homes.

In their design statement 7N observed: “The landscape proposals, are coordinated with the architectural and urban design approach for the development and seek to create an overall quality of place making appropriate for a business, commercial and residential development of international prominence.”

Developed by New Ingliston Ltd, Murray Estates, Frogmore & Salmon Harvester the initial phase of work would stretch to 2,276,704sq/ft of floor space.

Use the blank sites at the Gyle for this stuff. That is what it is for. Does any of it need to be within walking distance of the airport? No. Who would want to live there?

Maybe all the plane spotters can live there?

Hope this development is built soon. The tram stops between The Gyle and airport basically sit in empty fields. Aesthetically lovely and all that - but not much practical use.
