Work starts on Liberton High School sports hall extension

Ashwood has commenced work on a £2.25m sports hall extension at Liberton High School, Edinburgh, incorporating an enlarged gym and dance hall as well as new changing rooms.This follows a wall collapse at the school which led to the death of a pupil.
Designed in-house by Edinburgh City Council the extension will sit on a base of Forticrete polished blockwork and clad with Bermit Equitone Pictura ventilated rainscreen vertical boards.
Archie Meikle, managing director of Ashwood, said: “The construction sector in Scotland is steadily recovering and we have been pleased to see not only an increase in available work but contract values too.”
Ashwood are currently delivering a £1.5m house extension in North Berwick as well as a £500k sports hall refurbishment in West Lothian.
