Blow-down date set for remaining Red Road blocks
August 3 2015
Glasgow Housing Association has finalised plans for the simultaneous blow-down of six tower blocks at Red Road, one year on from an abortive bid to bring the blocks down during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.Contractor Safedem is currently undertaking preparatory work for the blow-downs, the precise date for which is being kept under wraps, following the explosive demise of two other blocks on the estate in 2012 and 2013.
David Fletcher, director of regeneration for GHA, said: "We're working very closely with our contractor and partners on plans to bring down all six remaining blocks in a single demolition later this year.
A public consultation into a housing-led regeneration scheme for the site will be held later this summer.

If they were left alone, they would make a spectacular ruin. Just saying.

Could be. That's the thing about monuments: open to interpretation.

Great to see these terrible expressions of Architect's egos being torn down.

whilst i don't disagree that this particular building type, (in this location, for the demographic proposed for them) is a travesty, i don't think they exist, #FHM, purely as an expression of 'Architect Ego'. I' mpretty certain ,as with the majority of developments there are a multitude of factors resulting in a building type, other than the Architect's HB.
