Monklands Hospital ICU expansion gets underway
July 3 2015
Work to refurbish and extend Monklands Hospital, Airdrie, has got underway with Graham Construction moving on-site to upgrade the existing operating theatres and intensive care unit (ICU) on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire. The £19m project will include construction of a 10-bed Oberlanders designed ICU unit adjacent to the existing facility, linked directly to the hospital’s operating theatres, freeing up space in the main building to make way for a purpose-built recovery area.
In tandem with this work seven operating theatres will be refurbished whilst the hospital remains fully operational at all times with the overhaul is expected to conclude by spring 2018.
Gary Holmes, Graham Construction’s regional director, said: “We’ve designed the construction programme to ensure that local people still have full access to the centre while building work is being carried out.”
Monklands Hospital is in process of building a new radiotherapy centre on campus and recently saw the addition of Maggie’s Lanarkshire.

ooft…..
I hope i'm not going to be ill in Monklands at any point. Looks more like a jail, and even then I think they would have more human rights.

It just has to be said - I find the vertical deployment of the Kingspan panel particularly inspired and inspiring juxtaposed against the rationalist grid of the fencing sublimely ironic and indeed well redolent of Shotts prison.
Secondly, you just have to look at the interior view of image 2 and wonder what toxic post-apocalyptic game influenced this beauty.
Nightmare.
I actually think this design will contravene the users' European Human Rights Convention.
This is to put it mildly.

....yes all pretty grim I'm afraid....although the Secure By Design remit may prove effective keeping the Buckfast crowd out (or should that be in) - never mind at least the are migrating birds positioned on the burgeoning post apocalyptic blue sky allows us to cling on to some hope for future generations!!
