Holiday Inn Express planned for Edinburgh Airport
July 3 2015
Plans have been submitted for the creation of a 75 bed Holiday Inn Express hotel within the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, on land currently used as car parking for the adjacent Quality Hotel - which will itself be upgraded to present a more contemporary appearance.A cohesive landscaping strategy will be implemented by Thistle Ltd, owner of both sites, in addition to a four storey new build element clad in terracotta and white/grey Trespa panels.
In their design statement ICA said: “The corner feature of the hotel addresses the need for the building to enhance its visibility on approach. Grey terracotta wraps over the roof and plant area to bring it within the building.
“The glazed public areas at ground floor level provide activation while the clear storey at third floor level visually reduces the perception of the buildings height.
“Coloured panels within the window ingoes mean that the perception of the building alters depending on the position of the viewer.”
