Dundee High School launches arts centre fundraising drive
July 1 2015
Dundee High School has kicked off a lengthy fundraising drive to create a performing and visual arts centre within the city’s former Head Post Office.Scheduled to run through to 2020 the initiative will raise the necessary funds to deliver a Page\Park penned overhaul of the French Renaissance style landmark, adapting and adding to the existing structure to provide learning and teaching facilities as well as an auditorium, dining hall, administrative and social spaces.
A Page\Park spokesperson said, "The acquisition by the School of the former Post Office building adjacent to the main school complex has initiated a remarkable vision for an Arts complex second to none in an academic context in the United Kingdom."
Oliver Jackson-Hutt, director of development at the High School of Dundee, added: "Dundee is experiencing a cultural renaissance and it is fitting that its oldest school, founded in 1239, makes a strong positive contribution to this regeneration, inspiring the whole community and cultivating the leaders of tomorrow."
Work to strip out the existing building has already been completed ahead of a phased start on site pending submission of a full planning application.
