Work gets underway on West Dunbartonshire Council offices
June 16 2015
West Dunbartonshire Council have begun site clearance for a new £16.4m offices within the shell of the former Dumbarton Academy, Church Street. This will see the A-listed building brought back to life as office space, together with a new build to the rear, to accommodate 500 council employees.
Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, convener of infrastructure, regeneration, and economic development said: “It’s fantastic to see our plans to regenerate Dumbarton town centre beginning to take shape. This is the first step towards creating new Council offices in the town and restoring a landmark building. The demolition will last for just four weeks and will be taking place Monday to Friday during business hours to minimise the impact on neighbouring properties.”
Staff will be relocated from existing offices at Garshake, which have become too expensive to maintain, by spring 2017 whereupon the existing HQ will be demolished.

Finally a council that recognizes that you have to bring people back to work in town centers in order to improve them!

A positive move, this building has been left unused and unloved for so long!
