Thistle Foundation begin work on Craigmillar community hub
April 20 2015
Work has got underway on the delivery of a new headquarters for the Thistle Foundation at Craigmillar, Edinburgh, creating a purpose built health and wellbeing facility on the site of the disused Tudsbery centre.Designed by 3DReid Architects the facility will stretch to 1,500sq/m when it opens its doors early next year, providing a community hub, gym, training and consultation rooms on the ground floor with office space above.
Diana Noel Paton, chief executive of Thistle said: “The new facility will help us continue to support people to live the life they want. It is hugely important to us to keep our historical links and connections with the estate and the community – and the new centre will ensure we can support the regeneration and growth of the wider area as well.”
Built by CCG within a conservation area the scheme slots within the bounds of the original, re-orientating its footprint to create a through route from Greendykes Road and open up views of the historic Robin Chapel.
