RGU student wins Aberdeen festival hub contest
April 17 2015
Lucy Fisher, a second-year architecture student at Robert Gordon University has seen off competition 10 other shortlisted classmates to win a design competition for a hub and information point serving Aberdeen’s Look Again 2016 arts festival.‘Mirror Pavilion’ was one of 11 designs to be placed on public display earlier this month for a public vote in which visitors were invited to pick their favourite designs.
This process saw Fisher’s entry emerge on top, meaning that the 6x6m timber frame pavilion, clad in mirrors and glass, will now be built on the city’s Castlegate to provide an information desk, meeting room and workshops for the event.
Fisher commented: “I took my inspiration from the name of the festival and wanted my design to be something which encapsulated that notion of getting people to ‘look again’.”
Just missing out on the prize was ‘Aberdeenshire Map’, a shipping container design by fifth year students Andy McDonagh and Kyle Scott whilst ‘Pallet Pavilion’ by third year students Calum Ward and Vicky Mitchell came third.

Looks great! Well done all involved. What a fantastic opportunity for the students to be part of the overall design process, and hopefully they will receive valuable experience in detailing construction drawings and perhaps be part of the procurement process.
