Housing plans submitted for Edinburgh’s former Eastern General Hospital
Smith Scott Mullan Architects have submitted plans to build 76 flats on part of the former Eastern general Hospital site, Edinburgh.

Located on Fleming Place the project is being delivered on behalf of Bield Housing & Care and Hillcrest Housing Association and will include a mixture of one, two and three bed flats finished in facing brick and off-white dry dash render.

In their design statement the architects said: “Essentially an urban block, the layout provides a strong street frontage, ample shared garden spaces to the rear and maintains the backdrop of the mature tree belt to the southern boundary of the site.

“It is intended that the use of brick and render will provide the development with a contemporary feel and a sense of permanence.”

As a resident adjacent to this sight. I would like to raise my concerns about the new development. Although I applaud new homes becoming available for the over 50. My concerns lay in weather a fence or something similar will be errected along the old stone wall. As a resident here for many years, I have been in the awful predicament of having my home broken into on 6 occasions over a 2year period, after the first residential phase on this site. I hope this clarifies my concern. The old wall is beautiful and i would always want to protect it. I belive that addition security for the current residents, need to be one of your priorities. Hence I believe something sympathetic but effective in its purpose must be considered. I look forward to hearing from you
