GCC extend schools modernisation programme with Gowanbank Campus
Glasgow City Council has revealed the latest stage of its schools modernisation programme in the form or a planning application for Gowanbank Campus, Pollok.

Incorporating Gowanbank and Howford primaries, together with Craigbank Nursery and St Vincent’s language and communication unit, the combined campus will occupy the site of the former Levern Primary in an area identified as suitable for new housing, to be developed in conjunction with the campus.

Designed to make a civic impact through scale the school will incorporate elements of colour to add visual interest amidst the use of dark brick.

In a design statement GCC observed: “It is proposed that the block will be clad in silver and charcoal brick and will have a rhythmic set of openings which, on the first and second floor use double height openings to pick up the levels of Nitshill Road and at ground floor reduce in scale.

“The uniformity of the window openings will give the elevation a civic feel suitable for a public building.”

Campus facilities including a hall, gymnasium, drama space, meeting rooms and offices will be shared between all users.

The Project should be called Levern Campus - with respect to the former historic Levern Primary School which occupied this site
