Page\Park outline proposals for McLellan Galleries overhaul
January 8 2015
Glasgow School of Art has outlined its thinking behind taking tenancy of Glasgow’s B-listed McLellan Galleries, showcasing its intent to remodel and refurbish the venue to form a new exhibition space.Valued at between £10 and £20m the concept vision for the project envisages creation of a new central courtyard and exhibition space linked directly to Sauchiehall Street and on to Renfrew Street via a new public route.
GSA director professor Tom Inns said: “The GSA occupied McLellan Galleries for 30 years from 1869 before moving into purpose-designed accommodation at 167 Renfrew street – The Mackintosh Building. 100 years later, our plans and investment in the Galleries will bring them back to life and secure their long-term future for both the school and the city”
Prepared by Page\Park, who are currently undertaking a masterplan for the school’s Garnethill campus, the work will inform the appointment of a design team to lead the revamp.
