Pennywell and Muirhouse regeneration drive launched
Work to deliver 719 new homes in the Pennywell and Muirhouse area of Edinburgh has been marked as developer Urban Union pushes ahead with delivery of 356 properties for social and mid-market rent together with 363 homes for private sale for the £42m project.

The work is being undertaken as part of Edinburgh City Council’s 21st Century Homes a project which prioritises the delivery of 1,400 homes for sale and rent on brownfield sites throughout the city.

Attending the official launch of the scheme housing minister Margaret Burgess said: “These new homes will replace poor quality housing and will give the area a new lease of life.”

Janice Russell, director of Urban Union, added: “Pennywell Living is one of the largest projects of its kind in Scotland, and we are pleased to share its progress with the housing minister today.

“The development is about much more than just bringing high quality new homes to the area. We are working in partnership with the Council to create a sustainable community that people want to live in. We are committed to delivering jobs and training opportunities, public open space and an art works strategy which will provide a range of activities and events for community involvement.

“By creating a sense of place we hope to attract a vibrant mix of people to the area, encouraging pride in the community and ultimately driving genuine regeneration in Pennywell.”

Barton Willmore is providing planning, master planning and architecture services to Urban Union for the build.

A few questions on this.
Who are "urban union"?
Is this a council project or a private project?
Don't remember the site being on the open market?
Any chance of a full master plan?

Urban Union is a partnership between McTaggart Construction, Keepmoat and Robertson Group Holdings - they’re delivering the Laurieston project as well.

City of Edinburgh Council is contributing £34.1m and the Scottish government £7.9m.

Is it possible to show the development plans for opposite Pennywell Gardens ie what will be in front of the New Health Center. Some of the master plan unclear, as no names on the main roads or through fare within these. Many thanks
