Another Carbuncle contender to get new investment

Kilmarnock makes a regular appearance on the short list for Prospect's Plook on the Plinth award for Scotland's most dismal town. However, Austin Smith:Lord has been commissioned to improve the run down centre of Kilmarnock in a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund's Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).The HLF has recently promised £6.5 million of funding for four urban centres; Kilmarnock, Dalkeith, Dysart and Aberdeen. The Kilmarnock THI has been awarded Stage One Pass of £1,990,000 and Development Funding of £25,000. The THI will be concentrated on the historic core of the town, taking in John Finnie Street and Bank Street.
The scheme will include the full restoration of four key buildings, an extensive repair grant programme and public realm works.
