University of Dundee opens the doors of £26m research centre
The University of Dundee is to officially unveil its £26m Discovery Centre later today, a new drug research facility which will house 900 scientists, students and support staff at the College of Life Sciences.

Designed by BMJ Architects the centre sports anodised aluminium façade of the building incorporates artistic abstractions of the four strands of life science research; molecular, organellar, cellular and tissue.

These themes were translated into the displayed artwork by Prof Elaine Shemilt and a team from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a gallery for collaborative art and science projects also included within the building.

Prof Michael Ferguson, regius professor of life sciences at Dundee, said: “This is a major new facility which will significantly boost Scotland’s biomedical sector and help us make an impact on people’s lives around the globe.”

The unveiling follows hot on the heels of the Dundee School of Medicine which opened earlier this year.
