Barrhead pins regeneration hopes on new Asda store
August 15 2014
A £20m Asda store in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, has opened its doors to customers after Barr Construction handed over the site to the volume retailer. The 25,000sq/ft premises have been designed by Halliday Fraser Munro and are intended to complement ongoing regeneration of the town centre, most recently evidenced by delivery of Barrhead Health Centre.
Built on a sloping site from Main Street down to the Levern Water the ‘store on stilts’ presents its main frontage to the former with a change in gradient used to accommodate undercroft parking to the rear.
Paul Happell, senior project manager for Barr Construction, said: “As a Paisley-based company, Barr Construction is proud to be playing an integral role in the redevelopment of the town centre and we’re proud to be able to provide this fantastic retail facility for the local community.”
The supermarket will ultimately connect with a proposed £3.8m extension of Barrhead Sports Centre.

Picture 1-Hordes of people with nothing better to do with their time but fuel the fires of consumerism. Meanwhile somewhere in America 'Wallmart' count the cash flying out of Barrhead, and they try to pass this off as regeneration!
