Twin Perthshire social housing projects advance
August 8 2014
Perth & Kinross Council has unveiled plans for two small social housing developments on separate sites within the villages of Alyth and Balbeggie, Perth, offering 27 homes for social rent between them.Designed by Holmes Miller the projects will offer a mix of flatted accommodation and houses including terraces, cottage flats and bungalows, each finished in a palette of white brick and zinc cladding features.
Internally properties have been optimised for open plan living, with sliding pocket doors dividing the kitchen and living room areas.
In a statement the practice said: “The design of the houses include layered forms in different coloured facing brick with angled recesses to mark out entrances, surrounded in precast hoods to create a sense of arrival. The angled forms return around the corners which are exposed by stepping the plan forms of the houses to create individuality and a rich texture to the streetscape.
“Roofs are grey concrete tiles and windows and doors are dark grey composite aluminium and timber.”
Holmes Miller was appointed at the end of last year as one of a number of practices on the council’s four year architectural services framework.
