August 7 2014
The Glasgow School of Art has begun the tendering process to appoint an architect-led design team to undertake a £20m restoration of its fire-damaged heart, the Mackintosh building.A public tender for the reconstruction effort is expected to be published next month before the school begins the selection process in late September and appoints its chosen team by spring 2015.
In its notice the GSA said: “The GSA is wholly committed to reconstructing and restoring the Mackintosh Building to its full use as a working School of Art and its architectural glory. In delivering this goal it has the backing of government agencies at national and local levels and the support of benefactors from around the world.
“To help realise this high-profile project successfully, the GSA will shortly be seeking to appoint a suitably skilled and experienced Architect-led, multidisciplinary design team.”
Work on the complex build isn’t anticipated to begin prior to 2016 before completing in 2018.
Interested parties are invited to contact the GSA’s procurement manager Michael Mclaughlin on m.mclaughlin@gsa.ac.uk, 0141 353 4500 or via Public Contracts Scotland.
