Tiger launch planning application for Haymarket
September 5 2007
Tiger Developments has launched a planning application for its £200 million Haymarket project. The master-plan – designed by Richard Murphy- includes a five-star, 180 bedroom InterContinental Hotel which will face onto Haymarket Junction and a neighbouring three-star, 246 bedroom Travelodge. The development will also provide about 335,000 square feet of office space and a central boulevard through the centre of the site, extending from Morrison Street to Dalry Road. The submission of the planning application follows an eight-month consultation with local residents, heritage groups and other key stakeholders. Richard Murphy, CDA and Sutherland Hussey are designing elements of the development. Subject to planning permission Tiger Developments hopes to begin work on The Haymarket in mid-2008, with completion expected in 2012. Richard Murphy said: “The Haymarket site deserves a building of significance and we believe the five-star hotel will redefine Haymarket in the same way as The Balmoral transformed the Waverley Valley and the Caledonian Hotel enhanced the West End of Edinburgh. The hotel will act as a focal point and lantern to the western approach into the city centre.Read previous: Urban Splash moves into Scotland
