Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village exhibition opens
May 16 2014
An exhibition documenting creation of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games athletes’ village has opened at Glasgow’s Lighthouse, inviting members of the public to see for themselves the transformation of the 90 acre east end site through to 15 September.Set to be home to 6,500 athletes over the summer the village will go on to provide 700 homes and a care home in legacy mode with work illustrated through use of scale models and display boards.
Councillor Archie Graham, executive member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, said: “The Athletes’ Village will without doubt be one of the most memorable images of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and a symbol of the regeneration of Dalmarnock.
“It will not only provide a home for some of the greatest athletes in the world this summer, but will create a new neighbourhood for Glasgow not long after the last athlete has gone. I am sure that this exhibition will provide a fascinating insight into what has become an example of what can be done in new developments in Glasgow and Scotland.”
The athletes’ village was delivered by CCG, Cruden, Mactaggart & Mickel and WH Malcolm in collaboration with Glasgow City Council to designs by RMJM, led by the former Paul Stallan Studio at RMJM.
