Graham near completion of Deaconess House redevelopment
May 2 2014
Graham Construction is nearing completion of a £14.5m redevelopment of the former Deaconess House, Edinburgh, which will transform the former hospital into 300 student apartments.Scheduled to be handed over to Mace Real Estate this summer the project includes the construction of three new blocks to the rear of the existing property, each arranged around a central courtyard housing its own amphitheatre.
Graham’s regional director Neil McFarlane said: “A blend of modern construction techniques such as additional steelwork and support structures has been combined with design features which are sympathetic to the character of the site such as sloped floors and church windows.
“We are proud to have met the challenges of working on this historic site, preserving the existing layout and integrating the old with the new to create a unique facility to welcome students later this year.”
Edinburgh University will assume a management role for the Kalyvides Partnership designed accommodation once construction work is completed.
