May 9 2014
The British Golf Museum has announced that it is to press ahead with plans to create a rooftop extension at its existing St Andrews headquarters moving on site this June.Work is being fast tracked for completion in June 2015 to allow visitors to that year’s Open Championship to take advantage of a new café space and outdoor terrace offering panoramic views over the Old Course.
Other changes to be implemented by Richard Murphy Architects include a rejigged museum entrance, reception and shop within the existing build.
Angela Howe, director of the British Golf Museum, said: “The café extension and redesign of the museum entrance, reception and shop can be seen as a new chapter in the museum’s history. It is the most significant development to take place since the museum opened in 1990.
“The architectural design complements the existing building and the roof-top café will offer stunning views of the unique surrounding area.”
Fife Council approved the extension bid in February.
