Perth Theatre redevelopment to move on site this summer
April 28 2014
Horsecross Arts, the body which runs Perth Theatre, has announced that a £15m redevelopment of the venue will take place this summer after Perth & Kinross pledged to underwrite a £1.5m funding shortfall – should a final fundraising drive prove unsuccessful.Horsecross chief exec Colin McMahon said: “Horsecross Arts is fully committed to the delivery of the Perth Theatre redevelopment project and hope to see onsite activity this summer.
“To date, in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council, we have achieved generous pledges of £13.5 million. But to ensure the theatre is fully equipped with the facilities and furnishings our audiences and artistes deserve, we are working to achieve a further fundraising target of £1.5m from trusts, foundations, corporate sponsors and individual giving.”
Plans drawn up by Richard Murphy Architects detail the creation of a 225 seat studio, expanded workshops in a reflective metal and glass box above a new triple-height foyer.
The existing B-listed auditorium will also be fully refurbished for when the theatre re-opens in spring 2017.
