The Light Cinemas has been named as anchor tenant of a planned 65,000sq/ft leisure complex at Dundee’s Wellgate Centre by Orchard Street, commercial property investment manager for city centre mall.

The pre-let gives a big boost to the plans, which entail creation of a 900 seat, eight screen venue alongside a range of complimentary restaurants, cafes and leisure outlets. This has been masterminded by ThreeSixty Architects and would necessitate a significant reconfiguration of the dated shopping complex.

Phil Dove, general manager of The Light Cinemas, said: “We believe in creating social venues for the community, which is why we differ from conventional cinemas. We will work with our partners, Orchard Street and the people of Dundee to support the regeneration of the Wellgate Centre and to make this a real hub for the city.”
