EDI Group launches Market Street hotel consultation
The EDI Group has concluded a public consultation exhibition outlining their plans to redevelop a prominent gap site at 4-8 Market Street, Edinburgh, to form a 103 room hotel.

Indicative plans prepared by JM Architects on behalf of the council owned property developer envisage demolition of a dilapidated 1930s warehouse building on the site, making way for a new build block to restore the roofline on a key component of the Old Town Conservation Area.

Clad in natural stone the hotel is designed to respect neighbouring environs, providing an active frontage to Market Street and an upgraded public realm around Craig’s Close and Anchor Close, together with a private landscaped courtyard for the sole use of existing residents.

To encourage feedback three massing models have been produced of possible approaches to be taken in a formal planning application which will follow conclusion of the three month consultation period.

Is council tax payers money being used to fund this?

Hmm. As usual - a flat roofed modernist high-rise plonked down into a uniquely wonderful Scots Baronial cityscape. 'World Heritage Site' ? Don't make me laugh.

@Robin Storey - wondering what you think of the final result, definitely no flat roof there! (of course the image here was just a ‘massing’ model not a proposed design)
