Austin-Smith:Lord to design 'distillery of the future' and new community hospital

August 1 2007

Austin-Smith:Lord has applied to Moray Council for planning permission for a new distillery for Diageo - one of the largest drinks companies in the world.

The £40 million project - the first major new distillery in over 30 years - is to be built at Roseisle between Elgin and Forres, and aims to be Scotland's most environmentally friendly whisky production facility.

Austin-Smith: Lord Design Partner, Ian Wylie, said: "As a Scot, I am very honoured to be designing Scotland's first major distillery. Not only is it an exciting project to be working on, but it is important for the local area and the future of one of Scotland's most famous products."

The announcement also follows news that the practice has also been appointed by NHS Ayrshire & Arran to design the new £20 million Girvan Community Hospital.

The new building is to include inpatient accommodation for 26 beds, community casualty and rehabilitation units and an outpatient day hospital, as well as a base for the Scottish Ambulance Service.
