February 28 2014
NHS Tayside has begun work on the delivery of a child and adolescent mental health unit within the grounds of Dudhope House, Dundee.Built by BAM Construction and designed by Gauldie Wright & Partners the facility will provide 24hr care for young people coping with mental health conditions and incorporates an education wing, therapy centre and offices.
On-site accommodation is provided on the first floor which has its own courtyard entrance thanks to the sloping topography of the site.
Doug Keillor, regional director BAM Construction said, “This new fit-for-purpose building will provide a more practical environment for residents, visitors and staff. The design will complement the surrounding natural habitat, as well as the existing façade of Dudhope House.”
Caroline Selkirk, deputy chief executive for NHS Tayside added: “We are delighted to see the commencement of this significant development which NHS Tayside is hosting on behalf of the North of Scotland Planning Group Region. All group members from NHS Grampian, NHS Highland, NHS Orkney, NHS Shetland and NHS Tayside are jointly working to ensure a network of services are available to enhance and support local care service capacity and capability across the North of Scotland.”
