February 25 2014
Balfour Beatty has been named by NHS Ayrshire & Arran as the preferred bidder to deliver a £47m mental health and community unit within Ayrshire Central Hospital. This clears the way for IBI Nightingale to undertake detailed design work on the 206 bed facility, which is being delivered by the Scottish Futures Trust on behalf of the Scottish Government.
Derek Lindsay, director of finance for the project, said: “After a robust procurement process, we are confident that we have made the right decision. Balfour Beatty’s final tender offers a high quality design and therapeutic environment.”
Kerry Alexander, Non-Profit Distributing programme director at Scottish Futures Trust added: “Being able to appoint a preferred bidder in little over a year is practically unheard of but is what makes NPD unique. The new hospital will be one of the largest building projects in the area and will be a massive boost to many local businesses when construction starts.”
The health board anticipates that construction will commence this summer for completion by spring 2016.
