Cowgate hotel development completes
January 27 2014
A £30m scheme to rebuild a key plot in Edinburgh’s Cowgate has been completed, twelve years after a fire gutted the historic site at the heart of the Old Town.Designed by ICA Architects the scheme contains a 259 bed Ibis hotel, alongside retail units fronting South Bridge, and is being marketed to tenants as Soco.
Incorporating internal pedestrian links between South Street and Chambers Street and will reinstate the jazz club La Belle Angele which once occupied the site.
Developed by LaSalle the protracted delivery of the project followed the abandonment of a number of design solutions for the prominent site.
