Brechin & Forfar secondary schools to commence construction
January 22 2014
Angus Council has announced that construction will take place as early as April this year on new secondary schools for Brechin and Forfar as part of a £50m investment delivered through hub East Central Scotland. Both schools will replace existing dilapidated facilities which are no longer fit for purpose with new designs prepared by JM Architects. This will see the existing Forfar Academy demolished and replaced by a ‘community campus’ complete with its own swimming pool and a host of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities.
Brechin meanwhile will also be re-built on its current site, with the addition of a synthetic sports pitch.
A spokesperson for Angus Council said: “We hope that local businesses with an appetite for growth will make the most of this one-off meet the buyer session, which is aimed at helping company’s secure new work.
“These two new facilities will leave a lasting legacy that will allow a transformation in the standard of education and community use.”
Suppliers and contractors interested in getting involved with either project are invited to attend a meet the buyer event organised by Robertson at Angus Council’s Angus House on Friday from 09:00.
Brechin is expected to complete by the end of 2015 whilst its sister campus at Forfar will open its doors to pupils and the local community by August 2016.
