Transportable medical centre design competition launched
January 9 2014
The Building Trust have launched a new competition inviting architects, designers, students and engineers to put forward proposals for a transportable medical health centre for remote or mobile communities within south east Asia.'Moved to Care' will help decentralise healthcare provision and tackle preventable and manageable non-communicable diseases which kill 8m people a year in the region.
Submissions must provide a safe and secure facility which can be relocated with relative ease and incorporate a sterile surgical environment, climate controlled storage, an area for nursing and basic wash and kitchen facilities.
Judges will be on the eye out for schemes which consider the local climate, materials and capacity for future expansion amongst other considerations.
In a statement the Trust said: “The design should have a sensitivity to the tropical surroundings and where possible provide a sustainable solution. The jury will be looking for projects that attempt to keep capital and maintenance costs low in order to increase the potential of multiple projects being realised.”
Applicants must register their interest by 7 February and submissions received no later than 28 February. Winners most likely to be built will be announced on 31 March.
