Construction gets underway at Dalmarnock community centre
December 18 2013
Work to build a £3.28m community centre in Dalmarnock has got underway on land next to the Emirates Arena as part of continued regeneration sparked by the Commonwealth Games.Dalmarnock Legacy Hub will incorporate a flexible hall space alongside a GP surgery, nursery, pharmacy, shop and café as well as training and educational facilities.
This follows a decision to demolish the Dalmarnock Centre, home of the original community hub, which will be cleared to make way for a Games coach park.
Yvonne Küçük, of project managers the People's Development Trust, said: “The Legacy Hub will be our first community asset wholly owned and operated by local people. I am hopeful that this project will inspire neighbouring organisations to become the catalyst for change in their own communities.
Funded by the Scottish Government and Clyde Gateway the hall has been designed by Wilson & Gunn architects and is expected to open its doors in January 2015.
