Strathclyde celebrates Loch Lomond hat trick
The department of architecture at Strathclyde University has announced that three of its alumni have won the Scottish Scenic Routes Competition to design three ‘architectural interventions’ in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

This will see new shelters and viewing platforms built by young architects at three of the most scenic areas of the park.

The first of these is at Lubneig Beag and will be built by Ruaridh Campbell Moir, who graduated in 2013 and now works for EMBT Architects in Barcelona. A second plot at the Falls of Falloch was won by 2012 graduate John Kennedy, now of Rodgers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

Elsewhere a team of three - including 2012 graduate Sean Edwards (with Daniel Bar and Stephane Toussaint) all of whom now work for Dualchas, will work to deliver an intervention at Inveruglas.

Strathclyde's architecture director Derek Hill said: “This is a fantastic achievement by Ruairidh, John and Sean and we congratulate all three on winning the Scenic Routes competition.

“We are, of course, extremely proud of their success. The Scenic Routes Competition gives young architects and designers an opportunity to gain exposure and experience at the very early stages of their architectural career and we are excited to see the designs become reality.”

All the works are scheduled to complete in March 2014.
