New College Lanarkshire has awarded a £4.5m contract to extend facilities at Motherwell College to ISG, paving the way for work to begin on the Ravenscraig build.

Designed by BDP the four storey extension to the existing teaching block will provide 19,375sq/ft of additional space for the student association, general teaching space, meeting rooms and a relocated shop.

In their design statement BDP wrote: “Externally, this option extends the Atrium in a way that reinforces the original design concept of a transparent south facing volume against the backdrop of the more solid teaching wing and makes a more meaningful gesture towards the future Ravenscraig Town Centre. The new footprint utilizes an area of existing hard landscape which we believe would not adversely impact on the existing external design.”

A separate HGV maintenance teaching facility will also be built under the plans.
