Kirkcaldy leisure centre welcomes first visitors
A new leisure centre at the heart of Kirkcaldy has welcomed the first of an estimated 230,000 visitors in its first year of operation following its official opening.

Built by Graham Construction and B3/Cre8 Architects the facility boasts a 25m main pool, 17m training pool and a health suite with steam room and sauna. It also houses a sports hall, aerobics studio, play centre, gym and café.

Costed at £15m the complex sits on the towns Esplanade and is hoped to spur further regeneration.

Kirkcaldy Area Committee Chair Cllr Neil Crooks said: “This facility, facing the right way with an impressive outlook over the Forth, is fitted out with ultra-modern equipment and offers the people of Kirkcaldy more sporting amenities than they have ever had under the one roof.

“It’s not just a replacement swimming pool; it also has a fantastic range of much needed dry-side facilities for the town. I look forward to seeing the local community’s reaction to the new pool, aerobics studio, sports hall and fitness suite.”

Kirkcaldy is the third of three leisure centres in Fife to be completed as part of the Council’s £55m Future of Leisure programme. Carnegie Leisure Centre re-opened in late 2011, and the Michael Woods Sport and Leisure centre in Glenrothes opened in July.

Its disappointing their was no coverage on this site of the Michael Woods Centre as its the most architecturally striking of the three. It also has the broadest range of sports facilities vastly improving the local provision...
