A collective of tenant’s residents associations from the Denny area; including Sutherland, Argyll & Shanks and Glenwood, have joined forces to voice their opposition to a £6.5m regeneration of Denny town centre proposed by Falkirk Council.

A recent rally in the town generated 222 letters of rejection against the Council penned plans, which call for the construction of a new library and retail units on the site of a series of redundant 1960s slab blocks known as Church Walk.

Elizabeth Stewart of Glenwood TRA criticised the use of wood in the scheme, saying: “It’s not a traditional material; it doesn’t weather well, and is out of keeping with the rest of the old town.”

Colleague Ann Totten added: “I am so disappointed that rather than assist our elderly in the new build, Falkirk Council are building in ramps and steps and tripping hazards and all sorts of other barriers to the residents.”

In a response to these criticisms Craig Martin, leader of Falkirk Council said: “…the administration do not share your views and insist that the Council has worked with the community in Denny.  I therefore reject your suggestion that the Council is going against the views held by the Denny Community.”
