Angus golf resort plans submitted
October 10 2013
Plans to erect a £55m, 18 hole golf course at Forbes of Kingussie have been submitted by MAP property and Leisure Developments to Angus Council.Designed by Archial the scheme will incorporate a golf academy, spa, holiday lodges and 180 bed, five star Wyndham Grand hotel., which takes the form of three separate wings designed to maximise views across the course whilst also resembling ‘the silhouettes of agricultural forms’.
In their design statement Archial write: “Upon approach, the hotel appears as three agricultural structures in the distance, reminiscent of the barns that can be found dotted across the north-east of Scotland. The Kalzip standing seam cladding which wraps the roof and upper levels is akin to the corrugated metal finish of said barns, with the dark tone allowing the forms to appear as silhouettes when viewed from afar. Timber cladding to the bedrooms provides a contrast to the dark cladding, and reflects the warmth and softness of the bedrooms in which it encases.
“The ground floor of the hotel comprises high quality finishes, ensuring that at a human scale, the 5* opulence of the resort is clearly evident. Stone dyke walls ground the building, with full height timber bi-folding glazed panels allowing the public spaces to spill out onto the surrounding terraces. Bespoke high end timber panels form the solid infills between columns, which themselves are clad in a finely detailed hardwood timber. Each of the material elements, be it timber, stone or glass, will be finely crafted, as though an elegant piece of furniture, and it is this quality which will greet the guests upon their arrival to the resort.”
Archial have been developing their proposals since 2010.
