Humanitarian architecture charity OrkidStudio has begun a hunt for volunteers for their next live-build project, St. Jerome’s Children’s Home in Nakuru, Kenya.

In addition the charity is also seeking a volunteer project coordinator and development coordinator to lead overseas builds and engage with communities and foreign cultures.

It is the fifth project to be undertaken by the charity and follows hot on the heels of Mutende Project II, delivered with the support of Edinburgh University architecture student, Frazer Haviz.

Commenting on the experience Haviz said: “The chance to design and build something of social and architectural value, seeing it grow from talks to sketches to drawings and finally to a resolved building is something truly incredible. It is not every day the opportunity arises to be a part of such a unique experience as this and it was an immense privilege to be a part of the Mutende Project II.“

OrkidStudio director James Mitchell added: “Our summer design and build projects are at the heart of what we do and without the help from volunteers across the world we would struggle to reach the communities we aim to help.  In the lead up to our time on site, where every volunteer will play a key role in the construction of these new facilities, we involve our volunteers in every stage of the design process and offer a rare insight into the setup and running of a project like this."

All applications must be received by midday on 26 October 2013.
