Hammerson 'press the button' on Silverburn extension
July 31 2013
Hammerson have announced that they are to press ahead with a £20m leisure extension to their Silverburn shopping mall in the south side of Glasgow, augmenting its existing retail provision with a 14 screen Cineworld cinema, nine restaurants and a bingo hall. The 10,700sq/m building has been designed by BDP and will entail demolition of the remnants of the old Pollok Centre.
This will establish a new western entrance to the complex and will prove direct pedestrian connections to an adjacent bus station.
Martin Plocica, director of UK shopping centres for Hammerson, said: "Pressing the button on delivering this leisure-based scheme is great news for Silverburn.
"We will be offering customers an exciting line-up of high quality leisure uses that complements perfectly our extensive, well-established fashion and lifestyle shopping."
Work on the scheme is expected to begin shortly with completion penciled in for November 2014.
