Highland housing fair designs revealed

The Highland Housing Fair and the RIAS have announced the architectural winners of the competition to develop 27 plots on the exhibition site at Balvonie Braes to the South east of Inverness. The architects and developers have been awarded small plots big enough for about two units.They will be completed by summer 2009 when there will be a temporary exhibition and visitor facilities. After the fair is complete, the exhibition space will be redeveloped as affordable housing and community facilities. The winners include a number of relatively new practices, including Graeme Massie Architects.
The Edinburgh-based practice has won two plots. Their house on plot 16 (pictured) is the product of research undertaken by the architect and developer into flexible and adaptable housing built using timber systems. The architects selected are: jm architects (2 plots), NORD, Alan Holling THC, John Gilbert, Andrew Black Design, David Blaikie Architects, aim design, David Somerville, Keppie (2 plots), Graham Mitchell Architects, Locate Architects, HLM architects, Trevor Black Architects, Richard Murphy, Bracewell Stirling, Graeme Massie (2 plots), Rural Design, Brennan and Wilson, Joseph Thurrott, Malcolm Fraser( 2 plots), Oliver Chapman, NJSR MacLean, A&J Burridge, Studio KAP.
