De Vere Group secures planning for Edinburgh hotel
July 9 2013
The De Vere Group has secured planning permission to build a 120 bedroom hotel at Crewe Road South, Edinburgh, designed by 3DReid Architects.Valued at £20m the development will incorporate a gym, conference facilities, restaurant, bar and coffee shop and will require the demolition of a vacant two storey office building built in 1987, Helix House.
Located adjacent to Miller’s Varcity development the scheme comprises a ground level plinth set back from the road housing public facilities with bedrooms stacked above in a four storey slab.
It will be clad in aluminium panels and blue engineering brick and sit within a 267 space surface car park – more than the stipulated maximum of 235 spaces for a development of this scale.
Work is expected to begin later this year for completion by mid-2014.

Interesting that De Vere call this development form 'Village' (image 2).

Another long grey cuboid hotel scheme (see also recent proposals at Pacific Quay and Aberdeen). Is grey the new black?
