Keppie appointed to Kilmarnock masterplan
June 10 2013
The Klin Group has announced the appointment of Keppie, from a shortlist of five, as architects for the regeneration of a former Diageo bottling plant, Kilmarnock.Plans for the 23 acre site centre on an 8,000 seat retractable roof arena that would provide a venue for sport, conferences and events, together with a range of supporting education, health, sport and culture facilities.
Together this would be marketed as a ‘new quarter’ for the town, augmenting the existing town centre.
Marie Macklin, CEO of The Klin Group, said: “Regeneration on this scale is challenging, but we need to be ambitious and confident in making the most of this opportunity to create something that will inspire and give Kilmarnock – recently named Scotland’s Creative Town – something special and unique in Scotland.”

"Something special and unique"... Are you sure you've got the right architects for the job?

Yes and it's it's "Inquisitor " but let's not split heirs. I asked you about the past and to name any project. ANY special or unique project, then I'll concede? #5 Yes that is interesting, I agree.

Have to agree with Neil (if not his spelling of hairs). The appearance of Keppie's name on a project isn't normally a cause for celebration - they have a track record for producing low-concept high-return commercially-driven blocks dressed in a cut-price approximation of whatever elevational treatment was in vogue 5 years ago. Fine if that's what you want - and by the looks of it Klin Group do - one has to question, though, if this is really the right way to create a 'new quarter' for Kilmarnock, especially on a site this big and this central.
