June 10 2013
A design proposal has been tabled by City Architecture Office for a new community centre in Fullarton, Irvine, to replace an existing outdated facility.Commissioned by Fullarton Community Association the £650k project entails erecting a new-build community centre arranged over two levels to accommodate various social activities as well as lettable rooms for partners including Job Centre Plus, libraries, NHS and local colleges.
A private, enclosed garden space is also incorporated within the project, which is oriented to to provide maximum natural daylight and solar gain, along with the opportunity for roof mounted renewables.
CAO director Moray Royles said: “We listened carefully to understand the community needs and explore opportunities for a building that has flexibility to accommodate a broad range of activities and project a wider social role. The reaction to it is extremely positive from all parties involved which is highly encouraging for the next steps.”
Located in an area of high multiple deprivation the site is currently subject to a community land transfer bid from North Ayrshire Council.
