Miller Construction appointed to flagship Newcastle project

Miller Construction has been appointed to build the first phase of the Stephenson Quarter, Newcastle upon Tyne, a £44m bid to bring a 251 bed hotel, conference centre, 35.000sq/ft of office space and a 357 space multi-storey car park to the city.Designed to connect the city centre to the quayside the project will be built on a 10 acre site adjoining Central Railway Station, which Miller is refurbishing under a separate £8.6m contract.
Ian Jubb, Regional Managing Director, Miller Construction, said: “The Stephenson Quarter project will help to bring new life to the city centre and support the overall vision to regenerate the city centre whilst retaining the heritage and proud history of the area. We look forward to delivering these prestigious projects to the highest standards whilst keeping the city centre ‘open for business’ during the construction phases.”
The Quarter is being delivered in partnership with Newcastle City Council, North East Local Enterprise Partnership, developers Silverlink, Aviva and Royal Bank of Scotland.
Work is expected to commence in May for completion by May, 2015.
