Aberdeen’s St Nicholas House shortlist revealed
April 24 2013
A quartet of competing visions for the site of St Nicholas House, former home of Aberdeen City Council, have been published ahead of a full report on the site’s disposal. The design teams behind each bid remain anonymous for the time being but each depicts a number of alternative visions for the city centre site by four potential buyers.
These envisage a range of possible uses for the prominent plot including a hotel, office space or retail - each of which were put before a meeting of the St Nicholas House working group in a series of presentations.
Work to clear the site, which lies directly opposite Aberdeen’s new HQ at Marischal College, is already underway.
A full meeting of the council’s finance and resources committee on 1 May will consider the site’s future.
Aberdeen will be hoping to put the debacle of Union Terrace Gardens behind them for this latest high profile venture

Were 3-storey minimum concrete columns part of the brief?

You know what? I can see all of these working (visually at least), though I'm not sure Aberdeen needs any more hotels or retail outlets...

Wow. A competition for a major project in Aberdeen. What could go wrong.

suspended ceilings and grid lighting a-go-go! At least the renders are honest about the impact of a fully glazed facade - how happy this'll look with the usual office detritus up against the windows.

I agree with Oli at #2 in respect that it doesn't require anymore retail outlets, plenty units currently vacant. However a 5* hotel in the city centre would be a boost.
