Three consortia have been named by NHS Lothian in a shortlist for the relocation of Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the Department of Clinical Neurosciences to a new combined facility next to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Each team combines a construction partner with an architect and comprise the following: Mosaic – constituting Laing O’Rourke with Keppie Design and Hassell Limited; B3 – comprising BAM Construction and Balfour Beatty with Building Design Partnership and lastly Integrated Healthcare Solutions Lothian – a team made up of Brookfield Multiplex and HLMAD.
Each bidder has now been invited to participate in the competitive dialogue for the project during which detailed designs and commercial terms will be drawn up.
This process is expected to conclude in spring 2014 whereupon the successful bidder will finalise their design ahead of a site start in the autumn. Completion is pencilled in for the summer of 2017.
Susan Goldsmith, director of finance for NHS Lothian said: “This project is significant in shaping the future of care in Lothian by bringing children’s, maternity and adult services together on the same site. It will build on the existing centre of excellence, creating a major trauma centre and providing opportunities for sharing experience, expertise and research.”
